Terms of Service

Last updated 2 October 2026

These terms cover your use of WriteScan Pro. They are written to be read, not to be skipped — if anything here is unclear, ask us before you subscribe.

Who you are dealing with

WriteScan Pro is a product of Runly, a sole proprietorship based in South Africa. Our registered business address is held on file with Paddle, our merchant of record, and is provided on request.

When you buy a subscription, the sale itself is made by Paddle, who act as the merchant of record. Paddle takes the payment, handles tax, and issues your invoice; your card details are entered on Paddle's systems, not ours. Paddle's own buyer terms apply to the transaction alongside these terms.

Your account

  • You are responsible for keeping your login details to yourself, and for what happens under your account.
  • An account belongs to one school or organisation. Teachers you invite work inside it and can see that organisation's students and submissions.
  • You must be old enough to enter into a contract in your country. WriteScan Pro is bought by teachers and schools, not by students.

Plans and payment

Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance. Prices are shown in US dollars; Paddle converts to your local currency and adds any tax due in your country at checkout. Updated plans for new customers take effect on 15 October 2026.

Existing paid customers keep their current price and included access until their next renewal, and we will contact them before any future change applies.

The free allowance

Every account starts with 5 free assessments and needs no card to begin. If an assessment fails — the photograph could not be read, or something went wrong on our side — it does not count against your allowance.

Fair use

The monthly figures published with each plan are fair-use guidance for normal classroom marking, reviewed with the school if usage goes well beyond them. They are not hard caps that cut you off mid-term, and we will talk to you before we ever change that.

What you may upload

  • Student writing that you, as a teacher or school, are entitled to process.
  • Not material belonging to someone else that you have no permission to upload, and nothing unlawful.
  • You are responsible for having whatever consent your school's own rules and local law require before uploading a child's work.

What the grading is, and is not

WriteScan Pro produces an AI-generated assessment to support a teacher's judgement. It is a marking aid, not a replacement for a qualified teacher, and it must not be presented to a student, a parent or an institution as an official examination result.

Exam names shown in the product and on our website are the trademarks of their owners. WriteScan Pro is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or certified by IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge, PTE Academic, IGCSE, OET, Duolingo or CELPIP, and we do not guarantee that a score produced here will match the score any of those examinations would award.

Availability

We work to keep the service running and to fix problems quickly, but we do not offer a guaranteed uptime figure, and the service depends on providers outside our control. Planned maintenance that affects schools will be announced in advance where we can.

Cancelling, and refunds

You can cancel at any time. Your access continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, and we will not bill you again after that.

Refunds are handled by Paddle under their buyer terms. If something has gone wrong, write to us first — we would rather fix it.

Ending an account

We may suspend or close an account that is being used unlawfully, that is attempting to break or resell the service, or that has not paid. Where the problem can be fixed, we will tell you what is wrong and give you a chance to fix it before closing anything.

Our liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Beyond that, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have jurisdiction. This does not take away any protection you have under the mandatory law of the country you live in.

Changes to these terms

We will update this page and the date at the top when these terms change, and will email the account owner before a change that materially affects a paying customer takes effect.
